Sleeping Giant has hikes for beginners and advanced hikers. We usually took the main trail up to the tower (seen in the picture) which has a great view of the Long Island sound and the connecticut shore. This was our favorite place to go to when we lived in CT and turned us on to trail walking/hiking.
Two miles of mountaintop resembling a large man lying in repose, the "sleeping giant", is a popular feature of the south central Connecticut skyline. A 1 1/2 mile scenic trail leads to the stone observation tower on the peak of Mt. Carmel which provides an excellent view of Long Island Sound and the New Haven area.+ even fun to hike in the snow, with plenty of trails to keep you busy for many hours
-The college across the street from the enterance brings many visitors, including many smokers :( the park is non-smoking, but that doesn't stop them. Also heavy foot traffic has caused much damage.
