Thomas Jurgens was a close friend of mine in High School, we dated shortly and kept in contact until just before he left for the service.
A few months after 9-11-2001 My best friend read an article to me in the Valley Stream local paper on the memorial grove in honor of those who have passed in 9-11-01, Tommy being one of them, this was how I found out.
I've visited that memorial park in VS Hendrickson Park, on the lake Behind our high school, Valley Stream Central. And contacted the family through a website I found. But the pain I felt his family was in my heart.
Recently a friend contacted me and told me how Tommy was being honored by the fellow court officials and others who knew Tommy and his family, with a plaque. On Sept 30, 2006 Tommy was honored once again, this time a corner was named after him.
Lafayette Street in New York City/Manhattan has been named Court Officer Memorial Way. Tommy's corner is Lafayette & Leonard.Thank you D. (pictured in uniform)
for sharing this information with me and the pictures. I am honored to know that Tommy has touched so many lives and that you were able to honor him during the unveiling. We had a wonderful ceremony today in downtown Manhattan, as three streets were renamed in honor of our brothers. "Wind Beneath My Wings" was played as the first was unveiled, by Tommy's brother.

In my HS yearbook Tommy left me a day without pain. Little did Tommy know just how important those words would be. I remember his words and his love for helping others and I was lifted out of sadness.
Thank you Tommy
You will always be loved in our hearts
your friend

Oh wow that was very touching. Do you know I used to live on Lafayette between White and Franklin (right near where this street is)?
