Highlight:When researchers found raw food vegetarians had lower bone density that average Americans, they immediately thought about osteoporosis and risk of fractures. But further study showed that, while their bone density was very light, these vegetarians showed none of the biological markers associated with osteoporosis. In fact, they had a normal rate of bone turnover, high rates of Vitamin D, and high levels of a protein that protects against inflammation.
